Default strange starting problem...

Hi, i have a mk4 escort that ive just got back on the road after a few years.

It has a really wierd starting issue - it starts fine every time when the engine is cold, however when the engine is hot and i try starting the car it turns over really really slowly and wont start like there is no power in the battery. After 30mins or so when cooler, the car will start fine again.

As you can imagine this is a major pain when at the petrol station etc lol. Have any of you had this problem before?

Cheers
Ste

I had this problem as well. Pretty common I believe.

I got myself a new starter motor and wrapped my downpipe as the excite wire sits very close to the exhaust.

Worth doing as it keeps the heat away from the starter and alternator. Helps them last a bit longer.

Hi guys,
Little bit of a set back, i fitted a new starter & wrapped both the downpipe & starter with heat wrap tape & it still has the same problem.

Any more ideas...

Cheers

Just seen this, i'll check the leads & connections, put a gob of copper grease on there & see if that helps....if not guess i'll try a transit battery.
