Default Identify the electrical sender

Hi all

Hope someone can help - recently purchased an ST170 (my first) and love the car already - had a quick look underneath yesterday and found the below hanging down (next to gearbox on passenger side) in the engine bay - its only supported by the loom and looks like it should be screwed into something (has a thread on bottom) - only question is - what is it and where should it be screwed into!

Thanks in advance

Matt.

that ones normally used to switch on the cooling fans on the rad when the water gets too hot when stationary

Looks like fan temp switch, located in rad. Nothing to do with temp gauge at cluster

As said water temp sensor, the gauge one and ecu one are seperate, and afaik both in the stat housing, although it seems odd, my dads neighbour who has a T reg mk1 focus 2L ghia has exactly the same in the same place, but car works perfect.

For starters it only has one coolant temperature sensor, which gives its signal to the ecu, the ecu then gives an output to the gauge.

That sensor ou have pictured is the under bonnet air temperature sensor, as the focus bay is quite cramped if it starts getting toasty under the bonnet then the cooling fans will come on.

It should be cable tied (that is the way ford did it) to the side of the battery box.

I think it's the crappy build that gives old fords their charm! If there was never at least one thing to mend then it would be boring
