Default Mk 4 escort 1.3 eclipse exhaust splutter

Hi can anyone please help? , I have a 1987 mk 4 escort 1.3 , 31,ooo original miles , its just passed it's mot everything was spot on , just a warning about the exhaust front Downpipe which was a bit rusty ... So I have just changed this to a brand new shiny one which matches the rest of the exhaust..... But I now get a farty splutter from the exhaust mainly when I de-accelerate , it does it a bit when you accelerate hard , but its mega when you de-accelerate , I,m considering putting the rusty old one back on , but the rag and bone man took it .. Any ideas ??????? Thanks Roy .... I have double checked everything gaskets the lot , it drives great ??

Get someone to put their hand (with a bit of rag) over the tail pipe and check for leaks.

Did you clean all the joints and flanges up with sand paper? Otherwise you may be mating a fresh pipe to a rusty flange and the build up of shit it not letting it sit flat.

Thanks Chrish , I went over it all again and found one of the bolts on the down pipe was seized , I thought it was tight against the manifold but it was just tight against itself .. I managed to free it up and it's all spot on now ... Obvious really but thanks anyway , it sounds spot on now , .. Roy
