hi im harry, im 17 and im having trouble with my seires 1 i purchased 2 days ago.
i put the key in and theres nothing. no lights on the dash no crank nothing.
ive cleaned the earths and put them back but still nothing any ideas

Sound like you may have old immobilizer somewhere cutting power or perhaps the ignition barrel is faulty. As well as checking the earth also check the positive from the battery to the starter and then from starter to the alternator. I once saw a W reg xr3 with a weird no power problem and it turned out the battery + lead has a fuseable link inline with the cable that had blown. You can get a cheap multimeter for around a fiver and I am sure it will pay for itself in no time.

Remove steering column shroud and check for burnt out wiring 1st - seen this before and its an easy/quick thing to try first.

and im gonna check the other bit with the starter and alternator 2moz if the weather improoves.

 

hi i have a update, i was told their is no immobilizer from the previous owners and wen i put the terminals on the batterys nuffin happens still but i used 2 cables goin from the positive and negative to the empty slot in the key hole shown in the pic above and and the other wire to where the black and yellow wire bellow it and the engine started ticking over,
and also when i touch the cable on the empty slot above and wiv the black cable on the left the dash lights come on any ideas?
