Yes of course, ford did it, just a case of how much you need to add to your car to make it work, and cost of parts, depends what features the trip compy has, there were several fitted to sierras.

The one pictured is NOT the type that shows the fuel consumption and range etc.
The type you want is different, the one in the piccie from memory is from a xr4i, the door ajar bit/lights out warning is the same on cossie and xr4i.
To use a fuel computer one you will need a fuel flow metre on your car, as well as some electronic means of measuring wheel rotation for distance, if not it will simply work on averages, which is how I expect the ford one works, they're not especially accurate anyway.
At the very least you will need in addition to the fuel compy the fuel flow metre/device that ford used on this, it won't rely on a fuel gauge reading for this as way too inaccurate.

I remember on the MK1 Ghia it's quite a complex setup, IIRC it uses a vacuum feed and a special speedo cable or something off the drive gear amongst other stuff, I can for you if you like to see what the various components are?

assuming you are talking about the trip computer

you will only be able to fit them to the dohc engine or the 2.9 engines as they are specific to those cars

they use an injector opening (4 for the dohc 6 for the V6 which is why you can't swap them around) timing system to figure out how much fuel you have used and the speed sensor to work out how far you have travelled

you can't fit one to the 1.6 as it's got no injectors

Don't know about the sierras but I have seen on other fords a fuel flow unit used for the fuel compys, but if not calibrated for this it's as you say a no no really.
