Cambelt snapped on 1.8D Endurance DE
Cambelt snapped on my escort van, there was no drama about how it happened, was doing 70mph it's literally cut out with no other sounds just rolled to the side of the M3, any ideas whether it'll be sh****d or not?
Thanks
Thanks
It is an interference engine , and I have known these when they go at this speed to snap camshaft and tear the cam out of the head , would just take rocker cover off and see if you can see daylight between cam and bucket and quick look at cam itself .
Took cam cover off and the cambelt was in 2 bits??? Don't know if something ceased maybe? Cam itself is fine no leaks or nothing around the engine bay, but I'm guessing it's game over
ive known the cambelt to snap at idle and still snap the cam and rip the cam carrirs out of the head as it happened to me id just started it up!
ive never known one not do damage but the only way to tell is to time it up,put a new belt on and try it who knows you could be lucky

common fault for these to do this if cambelt not changed reg i had 4 escort vans and 3 cambelts snapped was doing about 50-80k a year so brought a new well used van when it happend had the belt changed then when it snapped i replaced the van got the vans from auctions my old man use to run 300-400 each
I had one before this where the engine was pukka done 240K and never let me down but the body was dented and rotten everywhere, now I got a mint looking one, but the engine is shagged
