Default ST170 Aftermarket Cams+VVT worth the risk?

Can you safely fit aftermarket cams to an ST170 and still run the VVT on the inlet, i know there has been a few casastrophic faliures once the VVT switches and pistons have met valves. Even the manufacturers reccomend NOT running the VVT with their cams but i want to keep mine and fit some Cat cams

Yes, with the right cams can be done 100% perfectly, if the ecu is up to it, the std ford one is not the best in the world in this respect.
