Default cutting bump stops

just picked up a new Gmax kit and it says to trim the bumpstops by 200mm (20cm in old money lol).. Is this the case or just ignore it and fit them straight up?..

I have personally never bothered on all my cars and have not had a problem. However if the kit says to do it, you don't and crash and die, then at least GMAX won't be responsible

Surely on coilovers wound all the way to sitting on the bumpstops, cutting them would make it lower? or able to go lower...

We have to remember that the body of the damper maybe 20mm longer so cutting the bump stop 20mm will only really allow the wheel to move to the same point in its travel as it would normally , just a thought

My mate fitted a set of g-max shock and springs to his ecsort gti and in the instructions it said to trim the bumpstops but he didnt bother and a week later they were smashed to bits and he had to fit new ones

mark.

well you may not need to cut them chris as your car standard suspension is softer then a rs turbo standard suspension in the first place

Whenever I have cut bumpstops , always cut the solid end , as the other end is shaped to produce a rising rate as it is compressed therefore not being a solid stop so to speak .

if poly bush do the bump stops you might still need to cut them so the length is correct for the body length and the required wheel position when the bump stops start to come into effect .
