Default Gear Selection Problem

This is my first post so apology if this question has already been answered. I have not found an answer while looking at previous answers.

I have a Nov 58 plate 2ltr diesel Focus with a 6 speed box @ 38000 miles, I have noticed that first thing in the morning I have trouble trying to select reverse gear. I pump the clutch pedal which seems to be very slow to return to it's top of pedal position and have to run through the forward gears before I can select reverse.
Once the car is being driven I have no problems with gear selection that is until it is left over night ready for work in the morning.
I do not believe I have a clutch cable, (could well be wrong) but if I did have one I would have said the symptoms suggest that the cable was frayed and restricting it's smooth operation. Having had the car from new the biting point has always appeared quite high up the pedal, but thought this might be "they are all like that sir".
I believe this might be a warranty claim (and really really hope so if cash is required) but wish to have as much info as I can before enquiring at the dealers.

I thank you for your any help you might be able to offer.

Nope no Focus has a clutch cable, it is hydraulic and shares the reservoir with the brake master cylinder.

It may be worth bleeding and replenishing the fluid as well to see if this makes any difference.

has this problem started since the cold weather??? If so which I think is due to the fluids/oil in box taking that bit longer to warm up! I'd just start it up a keep it ticking over for a few mins before you try and select m8 or try flushing with new fluids but I doubt that would make a difference tbh

It could do due to the fact brake fluid is hygroscopic and is supposed to be changed every couple of years anyway.

as has been suggested, maybe start with a fluid change to see if this improves things. We have also seen some extremely low tempurates of late.

Thanks for all your swift replies and advice.

Yes it has been lot worse since the very cold weather has been with us.
I will ask about fluids being changed when I call in at the dealer, that sounds a good place to start.
