Default Suitable starter motor for YB/T9

Hi. Got the NA YB in and low and behold the starter wont fit!
Looks like the Cosworth sump is a bit wider than the pinto... Is there an alternative starter unit that will fit?
Some details- 9 hole cosworth flywheel turned down to pinto size with ring gear on, standard Capri bell housing.
Seems the starter only needs about 6mm inwards to fit the hole.
Before I get the angle grinder out can anyone help??!!
Thanks

The starter is a pre-engaged type. The bell housing has 3 bolt holes which are threaded. standard mk3 capri item AFAIA

I found a thread on this forum, post 13 & 14 give a few clues but I dunno what a Lucas M85 starter is and where to get one never mind a rover metro pinion.

Thanks! I've been advised to go a few extra bucks and get a reduction geared more powerful unit.. it's smaller so will fit and will be able to cope with the upped compression.
Thanks again for the help!

Starter arrived today.. only ordered last night!! Anyways

The new starter only has 2 connections, old one had 3.
Can anyone tell me what goes where and whats left out, why?

Also is the pinion supposed to be on contact with the fly wheel at all times? Defo seems to be touching when held in place.

Obviously terminals A are the same.. Earth

Both have spade, old also has pole connector..

Thanks

I see! Thanks!

The flywheel has been machined wrong I think, ring gear is too close to the dust plate, doesn't let the pinion disengage.

One last thing... Does the voltage from terminal C that feeds the coil on crank stop when engine is running???

thanks for your help! Used a few washers to move the starter back to get pinion clearance. Bit of a bad design on the starter, one of the fixing holes is covered with the solenoid so a bolt wont go in... doctored the mount plate. jobs a goodin.
