Default escort van doesnt start

hi guys i have an escort van x reg 1.8 non turbo diesel, it was a great starter until i let my friend start it, it started and conked out, ever since it hasnt started, it will tow start and im getting diesel to the injectors when cracking off the injector pipes, ive tested all the glow plugs individually and there glowing but i dont seem to have power to them,im getting the glow plug relay click, i have tried putting a wire to the 8mm bolt at the start of the glow plugs from the battery and holding the glow plug onto the engine this heated up the plug so im guessing the wires are ok on the plugs, anyone any ideas it was fine and this suddenly happened

took me half hour to get mine started saturday, hasnt run for a week and the primary pump has a push value on the top, which i kept on pushing three times and then try starting again, while jumping of another car. the glow plugs arent great and am looking to replace, but the pump was my problem in the end and had been in the past

Is the battery in good condition/charged? An engine is hardest to start when cold, leave alone in these conditions and so the battery needs to be in good condition so the starter and the glow plugs get the power they need. A weak battery will be shown in the cold weather due to the extra demand on the electrical system.

Then either the charging system isn't performing correctly, you have a drain, or the battery's arn't any good hence unable to hold charge, the former is more likely.
