hi i have a focus tdci and just today i went to drive it and only got into second gear then when i went to put it into 3rd i lost all drive

its had a new clutch about 5000 miles ago

i put the car in gear let the clutch out and nothing happens
its as if i still have my foot on the clutch

the clutch pedel feels fine

i was under the asumption that if the slave cylinder had gone then the clutch would be disengaged

on mine the clutch seems to be engaged

Sorry my mind was deep in thought in something else when I replied, can you select a gear without using the clutch? If slave cylinder the clutch would be not disengage I.E you wouldn't be able to select gear.

check your brake/clutch fluid level, maybe its sprung a leak and soaked the clutch and its just slipping like mad!!!

was the dmf and slave cylinder replaced when the clutch was done??

Is the speedo going up and down? If so then you can rule out the clutch.

So we have established the clutch is disengaged, either that or unlikely is something in the gear box which is a miss, the DMF's are known to be problematic and so it may be something to do with this.

Are you sute that it is actually going into gear and not just moving the gear stick!!!

The cables are prone to strectching and breaking.

Very good point, check that before any of the above!
