Blown a spark plug!!!
Looking to purchase an Escort this week. Overall great condition for the age with a lot of history.
I know this is a very broad question, so don't slate me for the lack of information....
But is it likely to have done much damage? Kinda hoping its just a case of helicoil and new plugs/leads.
Apart from a replacement head, could there be anything worse that would need replacing??
Appreciate any advice you can give me.

Head needs ideally to come off for helicoil, so you will see anyway, but unlikely to have caused further damage unless the plug broke and bits went inside may have damaged a exhaust valve ?, but unlikely.
Try and get a time sert, these are much better than helicoils.

Not sure the story behind it really.
Assume its been cross threaded at some point or not tightened properly.
Can't think of any thing more sinister that could have caused it.
Hoping just head off, cleaned out, new thread, new plugs and leads then pop it all back together!

As a design engineer I can confirm that Helicoils are far stronger than plain threaded holes. Wear resulting from frequent use of the thread is reduced and stress distribution to the host metal is far lower. Helicoils are a deluxe solution!
