July 2003 Mk 3 Mondeo, Water leak in boot.
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. Water is leaking into my Mondeo's boot on both sides, just behind the light clusters (which I have removed and resealed with mastick). The problem is a lot worse on the right side, but does occur on the left also. Water only seems to enter the boot (from outside surface condensation etc) after I have driven the car, it does not happen when it is stationary.
It seems to pool on the metal surfaces inside the boot behind the lights, to then run towards the back seats and also into the spare wheel well. The side carpeting on the right gets soaked and is now causing major condensation problems.
I have tried replacing the hatchback weather seal, this cost £63 and did not fix the problem.I have also put talc all around the tail gate to try to identify the source of the water, but this did not help either.
Can any one help me before I lose my temper??.
Cheers. x

the water seal in the boot would have been my first guess as well, but are you sure it's coming in through the top and not through the bottom?
or checked the rear wiper to see is it's not leaking from/through there?

My mk3 mondeo used to leak into the boot. Was the rubber grommet that the wiring goes through into the boot lid. Water went through there, on to the top of the headlining, then ran down both sides behind the trim, into the boot. Took it out and refitted it with a good splodge of silicone. Never leaked again!

I am pretty sure that it is coming down as surface water drains from the roof (from overnight condensation etc) as I have driven into work on a dry road and then found more water ingress into the boot upon arrival. The rear wiper seems fine to me. Thanks for the suggestions.

mondeo boot leak
would you be able to explain to me were this grommet is i nearly tore off all the headling today cant find this leak anywhere and there is a lot of condensation going along all the metalwork and leading into the cabin and i want to fix this before the interior gets damp and smelly and there was a big enough puddle in the spare wheel well but the carpet covering the well does not get wet and i sealed up the tail lights so im hoping its the grommet you're talking about any feedback would be much appreciated thanks

Re Wiring Grommet.
It is on the underside of the top of the hatch where all of the electric wires connect from the car interior to the back door. Good luck with finding the leak, I spent ages trying to fix mine.
