Get rid of the power cap, it does nothing. Make sure the RCA's run down the opposite side of the car to the power cable, make sure the earth is nice and clean.

exactly what it says it cuts down [ie surpressses the exact noise u r fighting with] it is usually a rectangular black or red plastic box bolted to yr alternator and connected to yr battery charge lead 6mm stud if later car or independent spade connection on 3 pin plug early type

I hope you meant run it OUTSIDE the car for testing purposes only,as escorts have a huge grommet behind the wheel arch liner which can take any sized power cable with ease into the cabin area ,have you also thought the new leads may be faulty ?

Did you disconnect the RCA leads before you started disconnecting/reconnecting the power cables? If you accidently touched the positve lead against the earth then its quite likely it'll send the current back down the head unit to blow an earth track inside. Have you got another head unit you can try?

I had this in my Focus, alternator noise through the speakers, as the revs increased so did the pitch of the sound, it was the earth, i sanded the area around the earth back to bare metal and bolted it down.
