Default only sparks on 2 pots

Hi Guys & Girls,
I have a problem with my mondeo, yesterday it suddenly started to fire on only 2 pots (1&4).
I thought it was the coil pack so removed and fitted it to a friends mondy, the result, fires all 4 pots.
After much research, i need to know if it is right that the ECU has failed.
If it has, do i need the exact same (NECK) ECU? I did try another (BASH) but it didnt even turn over let alone fire.

Thank you in advance for any help and/or advice.

First off before jumping at ECUs have you checked it's not the Leads or indeed the plugs themselves, even though it's unlikely to be both? If not then would look at ECU.

Thanks for the reply Martin,
Yes 8 plugs and 2 sets of leads and 2 coil packs cant be wrong. this is why i tried them on my mates mondy, with no problems.

This is why i'm thinking ECU.

Then your probably right, I have known this to happen before and the fix seems to be to replace the actual ECU. Car woulden't have turned over as the PATS hasen't been programmed to the key.

I changed the ECU & The module around the ingnition barrel.
What and where is the PATS?

PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) is Ford speak for the immobiliser system used the key is paired to the ECU, as such it would have to be reprogrammed with your key for it to work.

Hopefuly i have it sorted,
I found the PATS to go with the ECU, under the dash in drivers footwell.
gonna put it on later.
I now have the Key, ECU, PATS & ingition colar.

I'll let you know how it goes.
