Default Losing oil through airbox...?! :(

Right mine has started to lose oil.
Its an EFi CVH engine, and appears to be coming out of the airbox (via the breather pipe)

Have cleaned the breather pipes out.

* Airbox to breather unit
* Breather unit to rocker
* Breather unit to head

All the above are nice and clear.

And 'tried' to clean the big one from rocker to block. Couldn't get the pipe off the block... But sent a bit of heavy duty cable down there and pulled a load of sludgy stuff out. There was no airflow before i started but after a few plunges with some cable and a bit of rag, there is 'some' airflow now. I dont know how much airflow there should be coming out of there, but i can happily put my finger over the end and theres no pressure build up.

And it's still piddling oil out of the airbox.

So is it this big breather thats still at fault (i.e. - needs more sump-off declogging), or is it more than likely going to be piston rings?

Also im thinking that the black breather unit may be in need of replacement. When i pull the small breather off the engine picks up and revs a lot faster. Black breather unit appears to be restricting it a lot - is this normal?

Any info - much appreciated

Anything you do such as pulling a pipe off that is conencted to the inlet will allow more air in and of course cause higher speed of engine, it doesn't get it's main air suply from here so not an issue.
The PCV breather system on the block should have a one way valve in it, so that it cannot draw on it at idle, only at higher revs where it is ingested into the engine, this also adds a little restriction as it is a smaller diametre than the pipes, so I'd check this first, a very small amount of oil is not unusual if ragged to death ?

Right - i've now cured the oil loss by fitting another breather unit to it off a mk5 escort cvh. Slightly different design to the original, and this one isn't blocked like mine appeared to be.
It's now blowing a fine mist into the smaller breather on the inlet (rather than that fine mist condensing in the old breather, then piddling out of the airbox).

It no longer piddles oil and the engine feels perky again (however this may just be in my mind... )

But when i take the oil cap off when its running, you can tell it's breathing heavy...

Gonna get my mates compression tester on the go in the coming days to see if the rings have had it.
