Default interchangeable pinto parts??

hi, I've been looking for a 2l pinto for my sierra and have the oppurtunity of a 1600 pinto. I want an engine in and running as soon as possible so I'm tempted to put the 1600 in just now and change again later. If I do this could I use all the parts from the 1600 and just change to a 2.0 bottom end at a later date?? will the 1.6 head go straight on the 2.0 block???

I could also ata push get hold of an 1800 pinto, would it be any better for this than the 1600??? what are the 1800s like as an engine also, not heard anything about them. maybe worth just fitting this and forgetting about a 2.0??

cheers, Gregor.

Forget it mate the 2.0 is a lot better i know the popular one was the injection 2.0 engine these should be easy to get.

hmm, I've been looking for a while and cant seem to find any within a reasonable distance that aren't either in peices, modified (expensive) or in short motor form. the car is purely for going from a - b and i really want to get it running asap.

anymore opinions??

ive had 1.6l pinto and 2.0l pinto in my sierra and i wouldnt advise either id say your better off geting a 1.6 cvh, all 3 of the pinto engines i had 2x 1.6 1x2.0 all made alot of noise and not alot of go, and all drank petrol, and from what i know the cvh has a better mpg and a bit more go, and im sure the 1.6 head will fit a 2.0l bottom end no problems, alot of people seem to list the heads on ebay saying that 1.6 will fit both and that the 2.0l injection head is better

hmm, its intesting that you prefer the cvh. personally i'm not a big fan of the cvh, my mate had one in a mk4 escort and i didnt really like it. I found it quite slow. on the other hand my dad had a sierra years ago with a 1600 pinto and it didnt seem to bad, he certainly liked the car anyway. just goes to show everyones experiences of things are different I suppose. If I'm really stuck though it could stil be a possibilty as they're easy to get hold of.
part of me is wanting to just get the car running with any old engine and the part of me wants to hold out for a good 2 litre pinto or twin cam. dont know what to do..
cheers

As you say the 1800's are quite rare, the 1.8 CVH superseded it in 1989 in the Sierra.

I think the head probably would fit physically but as to whether it would run is a different matter, the question is why would you want to? You may as well just swap to a complete 2 litre later on.

Also the 2 litres are quite common have you looked on the bay? If not your local scrappy more than likely has one as they were in most Fords of the time, Sierra, Granada and Transits etc.

IMO there is no major benefit between the 1.6 and 1.8

The injection head/block is named so as that is the one that was Nativity in the Sierra 2.0 EFI and I believe the head flows better than a carb equivalent.

martie, tried ebay but none close enough, at the moment the closest is in england. no scrappies around glasgow or ayrshire still have sierras, granadas etc I phoned over 30 and only 1 had one and it was gubbed. Most sounded shocked i was looking for one saying they havnt had one for ages, try looking in a museum etc I've only seen one sierra on the road in my area in the last year or two, they're really rare up here in standard form. I'll keep looking.
re swapping from a 1.6 to a 2.0 it was more that I could use all the ancillaries, starter, alternator, manifolds etc
