1st and 2nd gear difficult to select
Hello All,
New to the site and have just bought my first Escort Cosworth and could do with some help please!
I'm finding it difficult to select 1st and 2nd gear.
I have a receipt for a full gearbox rebuild (to standard condition) less than 2 years ago.
Car has a 6 paddle clutch and lots of mods to the engine, estimated to be running up to 380bhp.
maybe the clutch and power has killed the new box...
Any ideas what to start on first?
Oil change?
Aadjustment on the clutch?
Is it possible to buy a reconditioning kit for the box, gaskets, bearings etc if it turns out to be this?
Any help would be appreciated!
Also, to drop the box out do I need to drop the engine as well or can it be accessed?
Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the help people!
Pepa - how do i check for play on the gearstick bearings? In any gear the gearstick does move from side to side but as it's my first ford i'm not sure how much is normal?
Pete - can you give me a bit more detail about your comment to get more clutch op on the cable please?
Also, can anyone tell me if I need to drop the engine down to get the box off if needed?
Thanks,
Dan

if it moves, but still feels solid when you change gear, then it should be ok..
if you put it in gear and the stick still moves: up; down or left and right, then the bearing is probebly on its way out... basicly if it feels like a pen jabed in jelly then its screwed.
Also, can anyone tell me if I need to drop the engine down to get the box off if needed?
someone correct me if im wrong...

Do the rolling in test First the way as above!,if ka dont move then get more pull on cable by peddel and reach over top pull back rachet asembly,so as clicks and cable come towards you, launch yourself upside down and play with it to see how it works.
If first test is ok you wont need to gain more pull. Got it all? Pete 241 or call 01707883641 herts.
