Default 1.8 in 1.6 focus

im lookin at buying a complete running 1.8 on a s reg to rob everything to put in a 52 reg 1.6. has anyone done this before and how much work is involved. Any replys gratefully recieved

Engine ecu could be a problem. Wonder if it will fit because it's a lot older than the car.

wouldnt of thought it a problem tbh there both mk1 focus iirc? and even if there is a difrence you have the 1.8 loom to match ecu etc out the donor....... easy mate

my mate has just done the same conversion but from mk1 to mk2 focus,

its straight forward, use the 1.8 engine looom, ecu, key, and reluctor ring, match the wiring and away you go

There is no difference in the cars at all both are MK1 Focus with the later being a facelift, as said you will need the ECU and the transponders from the key from the 1.8 to fit into the other keys.

I have both a 1.6 and a 2.0 mk1 STW Foci at the moment, and to be honest, I'm a fan of the 1.6 engine. The 1.8 wouldn't have the benefits of either.
The 1.6 isn't the most powerful engine in the world, but you gain very little with the 1.8. The 1.6 on the other other hand has a better mileage, it's much more compact, much ligther, quieter, etc...
