Default 90 spec xr3i efi to carbs use return line for pump ?

Hiya
I'm in the process of converting my 90spec xr3i (zetec engine conversion) to bike carbs. I've got the carbs bolted on and the ignition sorted but I've hit a snag with the fuel lines.
I can't get the fuel pump (engine bay suction type pump ) to pull fuel through the original feed line, i'm assuming it's the intank pump thats causing the issue. I can get it to pull fuel through the original return line................. so i'm wondering is it okay to do this ?

Is there some kind of swirl pot on the original line out from the tank? if so, that might be why it wont pull through.

No idea if you can use the return line, but if it seems to work, you could always try it, what's the worst that could happen..........!

Do the bike carbs have a return line? if so, how are you going to run that back, if you have to run a new line anyway, you could use that as your main feed and keep the original return as a return?

Thanks for the reply
I'd forgot there might be a swirl pot.
I'm gonna drop the tank at the weekend when i have a look at the sender for the fuel guage as it's dodgy,so I'm gonna see if I can find anything that would restrict flow thru the feed line while i'm at it.
My concern about using the original return line as a feed line is that it might not go into the tank far enough so I might only be able to use half a tank before the car cuts out.

Cheers

the pickup in the tank should be fairly low, so that shouldn't be an issue I would think.

Surely if you are running a bay mounted pump to run the lower pressure required by the carbs, can't you just run 2 lines down to the pump and hook them up to the pickup and return, pop an inline filter on the pickup line before the pump and you should be good to go.

Stupid question, but I assume you have the pump around the right way and powered around the right way too?

Sorted.
I dropped the tank replaced the original fuel pump with a bit hose and pipe bodgery. There's no restrictions now............... Happy days.
