No, most unlikely. A 1800 engine needs more fuel then a 1600.
You can't change the ecu without the help from a dealer because of the anti-theft system.

if u have a 1.6 now u assume its a 90
just put a K&N, decat and a shoddy cheap remap. that will be alot faster, easyer and simpler than an engine swap. and u will probably have more power in the end.
if ur gunna go for an engine swap why not go for an rs2000 2.0L

Yes although im pretty sure the decat, remap and k&n wont extract alot of power out of the 1.6 or can you prove otherwise?

And yes a 40bhp increase (nearly 50%) from a de-cat and remap does seem VERY optimistic!

A suitable ecu is the original 1.8 ecu that goes along with the engine. You would need the engine, the wiring loom and the ecu. It wont start because of the anti-theft system and must be "unlocked" by the dealer, if possible at all - check first.
Or you can use an after-market ecu, that would also require an engine loom (hand-made).
