Hi guys,

I have a mk3 fiesta witha 1.8gti engine pushing 150 bhp. Its just destroyed the original 1.6 box out the fiesta so looking for best gearbox for the job? It has the starter at the front also. Im looking for the acceleration aswell as the strength. ive heard of diesel boxes but do they fit zetec? if so what ones? But worried about it slowing the car down? I thought a 1.8 zetec box would be my best bet? Please any help would be much appreciated I need car back asap cheers guys

depends on what you want from it

not bothered about acceleration and topspeed stick with the one you took out and get it rebuilt

or get one from a mk4 escort with 1.4cvh and put in a s1 limited slip diff and quick shifter (all rebuilt) for good handeling/acceleration then a long 5th (from a dieasel or something) for low rev cruising, moterway etc

a diesel box is rumoured to be the strongest, not sure if it is in fiestas/later escorts but for mk3/4s its not

 

just after the acceleration I have just now and a bit better motorway cruisin, the 1.6 box was around 4000 revs at 70 with the cams etc so was going to go for a 1.8 zetec box as rob said to give it a betta top end cruisin revs I think?
