Mondeo ST200 alternator help!!
I got in my ST200 this morning and the battery light was flickering when I started it so revved it and it glowed brightly which I thought was strange as normally when a battery light comes on and you rev it it goes out. Anyway I drove to work and the light is off at idle and low revs but as soon as you rev it or go over 2500-3000rpm it glows bright.
I tested the battery and alternator and the alternator is charging at 11.5v at idle under no load and at 11.3 with all lights on so obviously alternator not charging properly.
Just been looking through the net and apparently theres a common problem with some wiring to it? Does anyone know anout this or should I just put a alternator on? Are they a big job to fit aswell?
Thanks in advance guys

Fitted an alternator to my ST200 a few years back, one of the most awkward jobs I have ever done, access was very difficult, the only thing I think may have made the job easier would have been to use a 2 or 4 post ramp, lying under the car with only the space provided by axle stands did not help, on the plus side it is doable, theres not many bolts and my car seemed a touch quicker after I changed the alternator but no idea why!!

Thanks for your replies guys, did either of you take the subframe down and a driveshaft out as Ive been told I will need to. If thats the case Im going to change the clutch while Im doing it. Not looking forward to it!!!

No, used a number of extensions between my socket and ratchet, fed them through from the pasenger side of the car, could only turn the bolts what seemed like a quarter turn at a time, could hardly see what I was doing = nighmare job. I do think it would have been a lot easier if the car had been on a car ramp or above a pit. My ST200 was loads of fun, one of the best Fords I have owned. Good luck with the job may be easier for you than it was for me (took me about 4 hours), most of that time was spent moaning about how hard the fecking job was. Let me know how you get on.

Did my alternator last night, only took a hour!! I took the track rod end off and both anti-roll bar drop links to twist the anti-roll bar out of the way and just used a load of extensions and it was off. Not as bad as I thought but I did have a 2 post ramp to do it on. The mighty ST is back on the road again
