v reg escort van help
hey was wondering if you could help me, i have a v reg escort van 1.8 diesel.
it has very bad starting problems. but once started it fine and will then start first time for the rest of the day. the red light flashes when the van has just started for a min or so but then goes out. iv changed the glow plugs and put in a one way valve between the fuel filter primer and the pump but none of this has made any difference. iv also check theres feed at the glow plugs.
so long story short am i right in thinking its either the pump or a solenoid issue on the pump. or air in the system possibly from the filter primer?
if anyone has any suggestion i would be so greatful.
cheers, luke

20K+ Super Poster.
First thing in the day BEFORE starting press the primer head plunger, there should be pressure there, if it take some pumps to restore pressure it suggest a perished diaphragm in the head.
Does the van turn over slightly slower than you'd expect ?, these are starting to suffer from a high resistance on the solenoid switching wire from the ignitoin switch, done one not so long back, this had had a new battery and starter before he came to me, took me a while to find as someone had half crimped a connector on the lead, with half the strands missing then heat shrunk over it, new soldered terminal with heat shrink good as new, first time starter even in the recent snow after being left 1 week, had 160,000 miles on it.

so there could be a dodgy connection from the igintion to the stop solenoid? u wouldnt happen to know what colour that wire was would you? also what does the red light flashing under the clock mean, its an imobaliser problem ye? it flashed like crazy when i have the ignition on. once started its like it for a minuit but then stops? could this be related to the dogdy connection?

Your talkin sh** now
i have the very same fault with my van.I've change the glow plugs and prime the diesel and it will start and die out again. but the light below the clock flashes like mad and if you let it run down the hill it fires up no bother. Its a real head scratcher
