Hi. I have a 54 plate focus tdci. Been getting poor mpg (around 42) for some time. Having done some searching on here its possible my inlet manifold/egr is clogged. Unlike the Mondeo on the focus these are a complete unit and cant be seperated so cleaning may be quite awkward. Has anyone done this on a focus tdci and if so any pointers as to equipment needed or techniques to make the job easier will be greatly appreciated.

 

Could bathing the parts in caustic soda or diesel or summit be the way forward? How about cleaning the intercooler out in the same way too? That must also get clogged up!
