ok so im fitted a whole load of gauge into my mr2
. but i just wanted to check the way i was plannin on connecting up the lights on them was correct.
so this is what i was going to do.
wire straight from the battery with a 5amp fuse then dirrectly after putting a 2pin switch in , then splitting of and connecting to the possitives on the illuminations on the 3 gauges. then for the ground run the - back to somwhere on the chassis?
think that makes sense, i only ask because im not really the best at wireing and i dont want to set fire to my car.

Not usually done that way, seems too much work, easier to just hook into existing illumination lights from another gauge in the car, or ciggy lighter illumination etc, doesn't matter where from, just be aware that if on a circuit that can be dimmed, it will also dim the gauges you connect to it, earth similarly can be taken from a convenient earth wire nearby, that's how I'd do it, it will also be protected by the fuse serving the circuit you connect into, the small amount of current used for illumination will not be an issue, unless you have gone mental on the amount of gauges!!

As said mega complicated way and you will have to switch the gauge illumination on manually, I would tap into existing lighting circuit and ground to a good earth point as said about the dimming although I do not think your car would have it.
