Track day problem
I was running my car on the track today for the first time its a sierra 4x4 running 400bhp the car ran great but the header tank cap was leaking due to the extra heat caused by the turbo and i was wondering would a turbo cooler help this and does any one use them as the engine temp stayed about 85 degs but the cap was leaking and causing the coolant to leak out and i thought after seeing them in some magazines a seperate radiator just to cool the turbo water before entering the expansion bottle i thought i would ask to see what others do about this problem any ideas please
Never had experience of one so can't say but from technical point of view I can't see they make much difference as they cool the RETURN not the FEED to the turbo. Would be interested to see what effect people have noticed with them.
One thing you could do is manually overide the fans so to aid cooling.

Header tanks, or de gas tanks don't leak due to heat, they respond to pressure only.
The turbo cooler is a gimmick imo, some report it has made a big difference, I think this may be more psychological than anything when you consider the temp of the water exiting the turbo and surface area of turbo rad compared with main rad.
First get a decent cap, make sure that you fill only to the low level, are you using a alloy or copper rad ?, if not get one asap, std rad is going to struggle.
When I made a pipe convertor to go in the turbo return on my 2wd into a 4wd tank, as you know the pipe is much larger on the 4wd tank for return, I made a space for a 1/8 NPT sender to be screwed in so you can monitor turbo temperature, so you can see exactly what is what.
