Default Rev Counter Bouncing

As title really, noticed it yesterday sitting in traffic. Needle on the rev counter was bouncing up & down, then car decided to hesitate then stall. Car would not re start, & after a minute or so, it fired up again & ran fine. But the same problem has happened again this morning

Any ideas what it could be

Could be but if these components dont get a full 12v they won't function correctly, nice simple check for the batter/alt to eliminate them

The cause of my rev counter intermittantly jumping up & down, also jumped up & down when you started it, mine turned out to be the Ignition Amp at fault. My ign amp went down the pan after i fitted a Grp A coil. New one is ok though.

bad wiring connections and earth connections often are masked by changing the ignition amp, which often may not be the true fault. This is especially true on 4x4 - in which case check the 3 connectors across the bulkhead above the camcover, especially the righthand one with the large wires. Disconnect them and check cleanliness of the connections. Check the connections also round the ignition amp and coil.

Also check (preferably unbolt, clean and replace) the loom earth connections on the inlet plenum and the large battery to chassis connection on the front edge of the battery tray.
