Default Confussion, ZETEC or DURATEC engine

Alright here is my amberassing problem.

I've bought one of these engines.......

http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI...tab%3DWatching

I was sure it was a zetec engine, because thats what it said on the cam cover "ZETEC".

Today i was looking into the catalogue that i received from Burton Power and to my surprise the same engine was pictured in there and called DURATEC.

Can anyone by checking the link please tell me what type of engine i've bought and iff i would like to order from Burton....do i have to request duratec engine parts?

Here's a link to the location where the same engine as mine is called DURATEC.

From the ebay link, I'm only guessing as I can't read anything which isn't English.. I would say that is IS a Blacktop Zetec (136ps etc) but I can understand the confusion, as far as I was aware, the Duratec is just a re-named unit, so to be honest, I'm not sure that there is any difference at all..

Someone on here will know, try a post in the general discussion part of the forum too. It's viewed a lot more than this area!

Sorry I couldn't be more help..

Oh, there you go.. Some of the earlier Zetec engines were called Duratec, but the "real" Duratec engines have a Chain Driven Cam.

Hope that helps.

not strictly true as the mk1 focus st an rs both have engines branded a a duratec an are actually a zetec with vvti, proper duratecs will be all alloy i think

if you look at the pictures from the ebay link....on one of them you can see that the cam isn't belt driven, or atleast it appears to be like this.

zetec started as an engine name then became a trim level name as in the galaxy 1.9 tdi zetec or mondeo tdci zetec, the focus rs mk 1 was called a duratec by ford but is actually a black top zetec.
the easy way to tell is belt driven = zetec
chain driven = duratec (which is a mazda engine and just loooooves eating piston rings!!)

i will settle this.

the engine you bought is a black top zetec e engine as found in the focus and mondeo and whatever else

i should know as i have a 2l focus mk 1 with this engine and my mum had the 1.8

you cant see the cam belt as its under a cover.

the confusion is due to burton's site. they have pictured the early type zetec e with the aluminium cam cover. that has hydraulic followers where as the black top has solid
