I have a 4x4 cossie turbo.

I was running stage 3 and run 20 psi on T3.... boosted ok then went tits up.

lost all boost and now will not boost at all.

We have taken off the inlet and down pipe, and the bit inside is spinning with no probs,

when you drive it there is a nasty noise around 3000rpm where the turbo should spin up. and only when the turbo spins up.

We have taken the actuator off and reved the car and its fine no noise its only when the turbo is connected.

Does anyone have any idea whats wrong what it could be, we have tried it all

all blades on the shaft are fine and the shaft has very little movement left and right and none backwards and forwards.

your help is most needed.



Oh and i have checked all boost pipes and there are no air leaks !

 

I wouldn't say it was very little movement from left/right, although I have seen worse and they were running fine.

I looked at it myself tonight and never came across this before. There is no boost at all. I thought the shaft had snapped or something but it isnt'. Turbo does spin freely and with engine running and inlet pipe off you can see it spinning when revving the engine. However, once under load there doesn't seem to be any boost at all and it's making an odd noise.

 

has the flap come/broke off inside the exhaust housing also b4 you connect the actuator on make sure that the flap is/can close fully b4 u adjust it.

 

The waste gate flap?

we just cant explain why there is no boost, i checked what i could and then (Nik above) checked and done it all again?

All boost was lost at 5500rpm when it went and its not boosted since.

 

Also there was no oil in the exhaust side of the turbo pipe and no smoke from the exhaust....

 

wastegate seems to be fine, that was the first thing I checked when I removed the downpipe

 

hmmmmmm very strange, straight away id say wastgate but if you have checked then im puzzled.Best bet is to take turbo off and get a good look at the waste gate "penny" and check is complete and closing properly.Is there tension on the actuator? maybe the spring has given up.... If there isnt large amounts of play and the shaft spins freely i can only think of a boost leak......... i can inspect for you if you are stuck and only charge for postage the shaft deffo not snapt??

 

i hate to say this ... but sounds like the same as mine .. did it on xmas eve i still not looked at the car tho .. im afraid as to what i may find btw i now have a nice smoke problem on idle

 

Lee's car is not smoking at all, however I think I forgot to mention that the turbo is leaking oil so it's obviously screwed something up. Oil is coming from between the 2 housings.

 

Spun an exhaust propeller off?..would have gone straight out the exhaust and would struggle to boost.
