erratic idle when cold
hi, i have level 6 2wd cosworth management fitted to my frst (i know its not a cossy, but could you just treat it like one to give me some ideas please), for the first 60 seconds or so the idle is very unstable, sometimes stalling? after that it runs fine! it only happens when the engine is stone cold. also im unsure what type of idle valve i have, how can i tell/are they the same? as the complete throttle body i bought had a 4x4 tps (which iv'e changed to pf 01) also it has a new coolant sensor (blue one), any help or ideas would be super!
i havn't got a 5th injector (efi), but it could be fuel related as it revs up & down on cold starts as though under/over fueling, sorts itself out by the end of the road though (200 yards) weird!
all the parts are 2wd, but im unsure about the idle valve as it came on a complete throttle body, with a 4x4 tps(pf09). i dont know how to tell the 2wd & 4wd idle valves apart? ive since tried disconnecting the idle valve, & it dont rev up & down then, though it wont tickover at all untill it warms up a bit!

the point im making is that the fault dont happen when disconnected, so is the idle valve at fault/wrong type or is the fault just not apparent because the idle valve is disconnected (& so dont tick over untill warm, when the fault dont occur any way)
i read this (on p2), sounds a bit like my fault, & my starter plays up at times (like pre-ignition) :Thought i had sorted it the other day with new fuel reg but the next time i started it it was the same, ran like a bag of crap for 1/2 min when cold.
Ok i have sorted it now ( thanks to Danny Fiestacossie who lent me a loom, ign amp & coil to try ) IT IS DEFINATELY MY IGNITION AMPLIFIER THAT IS AT FAULT , swapped it over for another one & it has been fine, swapped it back to the old one & it ran rough for a while when cold. Also this was the cause of what i thought was a dodgy starter motor as well as when cranking it sounded as though the starter motor wasn't always engaging properly , with another ign amp this has gone aswell. I have swapped them over a couple of times & it plays up everytime with my old one, also noticed that my one is not a webber marelli one its a copy. Explains why i only had this problem after fitting a grp A coil, it must of killed something in the ign amp.
Thanks Danny for lending me the bits, i'll get them back to you soon as mate

-When the car is cold, if you disconnect the ISCV, the car will quickly stall, unless you plug the ISCV back in real quick.
-When the car is warm, as long as there is no heavy electrical load (e.g. cooling fans), disconnecting the ISCV should not affect the idle, when you plug it back in, the revs should rise a little, then drop again I believe.
no, ive not fixed it, i was showing someone elses post (dont know how to highlight it like every one else does
)who had a v/simlar fault & cured it with a new ignition amp. trying a new one tomorrow. also my iscv does act how you said in every way, so i guess its ok, thanks
