Default reversing lights not working, escort van wiring help needed

T Reg Escort Van,

Nice van runs nicely had a recon engine 5k ago, So just running her in, Problem i have is the reversing lights don't work either side, A mate has tested both sides with a meter and dead as a dildo,

So basicly i want to try and find out what colour in the loom is for the reversing light or what pins, So basicly i can connect directly to a switch in the front to put the reversing lights on.

Could anyone help me out with this,

Also someone has put a towbar and hacked into the wiring, Before i go the measure of hacking into the loom, I am going to rip out the trailer wiring and rejoin the original loom with butt connectors, That might actual fix it to ?

If some total dick has cut the reverse light wire/s then it will work just re joining them, as you have a towbar why not fix the wiring to it, as towbars are very useful to have, and wiring easy to do.
I would find the two pin connector on the reverse light switch on the gearbox, this will tell you the colours, and you can also probe for a live at the terminal(ignition on), if you have a live there bridge the two terminals and see if the lights work, if they do it's switch, or adjustment of switch that is at fault.
There is no connection to a trailer socket from the reversing lights, certainly NOT on a std black 12N socket, one can be put on if it has a extra GREY socket as can rear fog, soon to be part of mot!!

An Update,

Sorry been so long, been busy with working, And put it to one side, Until saturday morning when the gear linkage played up, Quick visit to the breakers and £5.00 gave me a replacement linkage, And its bang on

Anyway back to where we are, I have found the reversing light switch on the front of the box, And the connection, Help from another thread on here, So how do i test it by bridging the 2 wires out ? Does the ignition just need to be on or engine running ?, If that works then all i do is simply get a new switch yeah ?

Yes simply join the connections together with a piece of wire poked into the switch connector, ignition needs to be in position 2, normal running/driving position but does not need to be running, if all ok replace the switch.

The switch is on the gearbox itself so yes best to jack car up, have you tested the switch as although it is almost certainly the switch, it may be the levers inside the box that actuate the switch.

Yep just remove and push, that's all that happens inside the gearbox, just hope it's not the box.
