right about the top ones
the big bottom one goes along the chassis leg to atmosphere
the smaller bottom one goes round under the turbo (slightly towards the rear of the block) you should have a blanking plug in the block
people argue that the oil return should be lower than the oil level itself but on a standard sump there is no provision for this so the side of the block it is!!

There's no argument about the oil return if fitted, if it is above the oil level it is a breather, it oil fumes pressure will come out the engine and up the pipe, whereas below oil level it cannot act like this, the lack of a return can be easily overcome by using a sump plug return.

thank you for both your replies the thing that stumps me is surely with the large bottom one going to atmosphere there will be no oil for the little one to return it would drain out the bigger one first? is a spec r larger tank that sits on the flitch (header mirror) a better option sorry for all the questions

the breather is divided into two inside ,there is a fine mesh that catches the mist, the oil then gathers and runs down the return pipe, the big bottom pipe is designed to go to atmosphere so it should never be blocked/restricted, i've had a breather on all my motors and i cant say ive ever noticed oil coming out the big pipe, just a lovely smell!!

The breather isn't divided into two, the large pipe isn't just welded to the outside but in fact goes all the way nearly to the top of the tank, oil being heavy falls and runs out the small pipe which is just on the bottom of the tank, and doesn't protrude in all the way like the large one, there should be deflector plates inside that buffer the oil/mist and allow it to drain.
