how do i test the fuel pump to see if its working correctly as mine does not sound its normal self

Just apply voltage and see if it spins up, that's all you can do.
The pumps vary a lot in the noises they make from one to another, but if a particular pump has changed it's note from normal that is usually a sign it's on it's last legs, but could still last years!!
You could get the flow data and test actual pump output as well if you wanted.
