Just apply voltage and see if it spins up, that's all you can do.
The pumps vary a lot in the noises they make from one to another, but if a particular pump has changed it's note from normal that is usually a sign it's on it's last legs, but could still last years!!
You could get the flow data and test actual pump output as well if you wanted.
