Default mondeo 1.6 not starting

hi guys and girlz, i got a 1998 mondeo 1.6 lx, it wont start off the key it will on a push start, ive changed the starter motor, the red light by the clock is flashing, i think the imobiliser is stuck on, can any 1 help, stewart

Is it actually turning over ?, the fact that it bump starts shows the fuel and sparks are ok, so could well be immoby.

Yes sounds like an immobiliser problem to me as well. Have you got a spare key you could try as probably the key that has gone. When igntion is on LED should extinguish.

its doesnt turn over by the key, and i only have 1 key, any ideas, how can i by pass the immobiser, stewart

I would try other keys first, especially the RED one, could just be the chip has gone duff in the key.
My dads mk1 mondy led light does not work as it should either staying lit for 5 seconds after it has started but always starts first turn.
Another thing to try is rub the key with a wet cloth to discharge any static, as a build up can stop the key being recognised, if all keys don't work it would more likely be the receiver around the ignition barrel than the keys or immoby at fault, so a scrappie receiver should soon tell you if it is that.
