Hi,

I don't think you can use a standard carb.
I have a Pinto Turbo with carb, but this carb has the same way of working as a carb for a Renault 5 GT turbo. It has to be suited for "pressure"...

This turbo conversion was made by Turbo Technics.

I hope this will help you

Best Regards

Jeroen

i've read a lot into turbo carbs and from what i found you can seal the shafts and pressurize the float chambers and use delortos with boost, same as the esprit turbos, other than that you can build a pressureised box around the whole carb and boost that without sealing the carb, only thing you need to do then is make sure you have adequate fuel pressure, you can get a boost activated fuel regulator from burton if i remember right

The std DHLA dellorto is not suitable, for blow through turbo.
You can get specific DHLA's that are though, the main difference is not so much the seal it is the float, this being made of brass rather than plastic which could crush under pressure, though the seal is a different sort too.
Most carbs can be used easy enough with suck through though, depending on what you want to do, and this has several advantages over blow through, the fuel helps to cool the charge air temp, and the impeller breaks up the fuel droplets so it mixes better.

This has always been a question that the answer has been split down the middle, some say it will and some say it wont, and people have looks of differnt views about this. I am actually building a turbo CVH at the mo using twin carbs so will be able to see for myself it if will work or not. Tbh im not 100% convienced it will work well but iv wanted to do this for a few years now so deceided to give it a go.
My engine will be using a blow through system with a bespoke plenum that will be bolted to the carbs with a 60mm outlet pipe that will then conect up to the turbo and intercooler like normal. I have also had the chokes and the jets changed to what iv been told will be more suitable for what i need and im using a rising rate regulater from Burtons
I have got a thread going on my car in projects and restorations if this will be any help to you.

i read into the suck through method too, david vizards power tuning the ford SOHC engine is a great book, i spoke to a bloke who worked as a tester at garrets for years and for a suck through system you need a spring loaded ceramic seal on the turbo shaft to stop fuel going through, what would be the issues with using a normal turbo with suck through carb turbo?

I can 100% assure you with the right carb using a suck through system, no seals are needed, this has been done thousands of times, including by Geoff kershaw(Turbo Technics), the only difference is the suck comes from somewhere else, ie a exhaust driven pump(the turbo) instead of just a engine suck with no help.
