Default Focus electric window problem

How can i check the electrics for a drivers side window? I think the switch is knackered as it only works the p/s window, but how can i check the electrics for the drivers side window before buying a new switch unit???

If you have a battery, take the door trim off find where the switch plugs into the motor and give it a positive and negative connection. I think there are 3 wires one neg and one pos for up and one for down

If you have the interior light on, and press the electric window switch - does the light dim?

If it does, the switch is working. If it is (switch working), it's usually the motor.

Another way is to listen very carefully to the switch as we have had loads of them go , see if you can hear it "click" as the microswitch works , but we have also had the window regs go aswell , easy way is pull the switch out and get multimeter accross connections and see if you get continuity , can sort you a diagram out if you like , but sure it will be on here somewhere , then if switch is ok check regulator by bridging straight over the wiring block , at least that way you do not need to take door trim off .

The switch clicks, tried a spare one from the scrappy and even that did the same. Its sounding like the motor or regulator from whats said on here but i'll check them out as got a spare battery multimeter.

But if anyone has a diagram to show me which wires to check for continuity or whatever it is that would be great as i don't have a clue with electrics only mechanical stuff.

I'm assuming its a 3 door...

You know the switch is getting a 12v feed as the passenger window is working, so its just checking if 12v is going to the regulator or not.

Its a common fault on the focus,s for the motors to pack in.
