The 2wd are more prone to piston slap, which was cured mostly on later 4wd pistons by resiting the wrist/gudgeon pin a minute amount.
The pin is not in the centre on the 2wd as they are all offset to varying degrees.
Your smoke sounds like guide wear, although the rings and turbo can also contribute, how many miles has it done, as the heads don't last well at all wear wise.
As for the fuel pressure, this will be dictated by the author of the chip, so best to contact them, as they may have written it for a different pressure/co.

hi thanks for the reply,

ive had the tirbo done about 2k ago .. twice ! is running a amhed stage 3 chip car has done 70k and been fairly well looked after , reg oil changes ect and im not to shy of a spanner and have changed the oil reg every 6 8 mths as i only drive the car about 4k per year.

are the value stems and guides a head off job? i had a tuned pinto before and managed to get hold of a tool for the steams. any idea on cost ?

also what pressure should a get on a compression test?
thanks again

Don't have compression pressures to hand, but with that mileage would be astounded if if it did not have severe guide wear.
If it were mine it would be off with it's head, if you're that bothered about the smoking, but if it's not too bad, with your mileage I would probably leave it, I do around 500 miles a week at least in my cossie, daily driver.

I think from memory on my last cossie it was about 150-160psi odd?! think the main thing to do is check all of them and see what the difference is between them which would give u an idea if theres any other problems underlying!
