Default S2 not starting help please!

Im after some help on my S2 2.1 zvh. When i take it on a run and turn it off the engine doesn`t crank over properly. It is very slow to turn over and will not start up. If i leave it 10 minutes it then starts up. I have checked the starter motor and i have got 12v on the big connection when the ignition is on which drops to 8v when its cranking. The small conector has 4v when cranking. Would it be with the new larger engine that i might need a bigger starter and battery? Or could it also be that it is overheating because i haven`t got a heat shield fitted.
Thanks for any advice.
Barney

How old is the starter motor? It could be on it's last legs or full of clutch dust.

sounds like lazy starter motor from using without heat shield, or just old age,

Yep cooked or generally buggered starter. just replace it along with a heat shield, although it shouldnt be that necessary on a zvh as the starter is at the back isnt it?
