Default Any difference between a Escort XR3i and RST fuel pump?

I've just put in a RST lump in my van. The engine is running but at really low revs. The engine seems to not be fireing on all cylinders, so I've checked the spark plugs and they are covered in black (carbon fouling). I cleaned them and put then back in. The engine still runs really rough. Ive checked all my timings i.e dizzy, dizzy cap, timing belt but all seems ok.
Im wondering if the fuel pumps are any different?
Or has anyone got any ideas of what I should look at?
