hi, got a few elce problems on my dads mk6 escort so i was wondering if anyone can help me to sort them out.

1. his heated front screen packed up, checked previous threads and got some help, ended up replacing the relay (ppl mentioned there were two for the screen but ford insist there's only one! there are two behind the battery but ford say one is for the cooling fan not the screen) after fitting i tried pressing the switch on the dash, intermitently the light would flash on for 1second and i'd hear the click and that was it????????

2. the other night he locked it, noticed the interior footwell lights weren't turning off so had the pull the fuse so not to drain the battery over night.

3. yesterday the rev counter just stopped working

4. today the headlights came on and only go off when the ignition's killed, the switch does nothing to affect them. i was thinking maybe the relay has packed up and stuck ON????

The screen sounds like it either has a dead short, as it is clicking off like that, or the TIMER is at fault, the front screen are normally on a timer, this may be the other "relay" that you mention, if so try another from a scrappy, or pm me and I'll tell you how to bounce contacts to see if it is that.
The footwell lights are operated from same trigger as interior lights, so assume the interior light was on as well ?

The headlights, you are probably correct about it being a duff relay, as they get a signal when ignition is on, relays do this sometimes.
All manner of odd seemingly unrelated problems occur on cars due to a BAD EARTH, single biggest cause of car problems lecky wise, so have a good clean at the same time, all the earth points you can find, particularly around battery area.
