Default frst starter/flywheel?

hey guys, having probs with my frst. when i brought it was told it needed a starter, so got a 2nd hand one.when i started the car the started stayed engaged and made a horrible grinding noise. i thought starter could be naff, so got one from a breaker, same thing happened. ive just brought a brand new bosch unit so i can safely take it out of the equation as being a problem and the same thing happened again.
does anybody have any idea why this could be happening?

Sounds like the power which kicks the starter into action when you turn the key forward is not cutting out as you turn the key back??

ok im pissed off now.took the starter out, left it wired in and earthed it. got my mate to turn the key for a second and let it return.the starter did as it should, tried again and again and everytime i did, the same thing happened.

i now have no idea wha else to check other than takin the box off and looking at the flywheel but it looks ok when looking through where the starter bolts on.. heres a pic...
