Default lost red key

as title.my friend has a mk6 escort which hasn't had a battery for 6 mths and has lost the red key.now he cant get to start and thinks that it could be the red key missing that is the problem.is there a frig for this or is it a case of a new key and barrel and possibly an ecu.

the immobiliser won't forget its code, no matter how long its not had a battery, if it turns over, check you are getting a spark art the end of the lead, if so check you are getting fuel. just pull off the inlet pipe and switch ignition on and it will squirt out.
if not check the fuel cut off switch on the drivers side kick panel. if all the above are ok you should check if the injectors are working. you will need to make up a tool for doing this. a bulb with 2 wires poke the wires into the injector plug and get someone to turn the engine over. try these.

the red light on the dash flashes fast for 1 minute, then flashes slowly, all ignition lights are working, the engine won't even try to start? :-(

cool,i'll have a look in the morning, exactly what am i looking for,is it just a case of counting how many flashes you get and i presume this would be after the sequence of fast flashing.

The fast flashing of the light indicates the PATS isnt getting a signal from the key. Has the key got a red or blue plastig plug on the end of it?
