yea mate easy peasy just get under the car look at where the cables are, and there'll be a white plastic nut on the one side of where the cables made a u it''l be quite obvious once your under the car, just tighten it up and check it's not too tight if it's still playing up though, you might have to have the drums off the back, and give them a good clean and put some fresh copper grease, and you should be sorted
I would ajusted the rear brake shoes up first then do the cables cause this is the correct way of doing it.
they are self ajusting on the mk5 esco mate it's a little snail type plate that spins round with the pressure of a spring on the strut between the two shoes, so it should just be the cable unless it's seized slightly, then like i said u will prob's have to have the drums off to give them abit of a service but it's not a big job just a little fiddely putting the shoes back together and getting the holding springs on but persistance will win
they do if you or who ever fitted them before used some copper slip, i give my handbrake a load of abuse and never once has it needed attention in over 15,000 miles, and it still lock's my back end up fine
