Default Car not re-starting when hot, why???????

was wondering if there is anyone who can shine a bit of light on my problem i seem to be having. i have never been into modifying cars, and to be honest, i dont know anythig about cars, however, i have recently acquired my little baby, a 2 litre mark 6 escort RS 2000, now, when its hot, like if i have been driving it for a while, when i turn the engine off, to say, put petrol in etc, when i go to restart it it doesnt start. like the other evening i was sitting in traffic and it was getting hot, and the fan was working its nuts off to cool it down, then i stopped to get petrol and it wouldnt start, a mere 50 minutes later it decided to start with a bit of a pop from the exhaust. does anyone have any idea. please help.

I'd be looking at starter motor first mate...

The pop from exhaust was probably just unburnt fuel from all the turning over.

does it turn over when you try to start it?

I had the same problem with mine a wee while ago (1.6 CVH EFi Turbo), turned out to be the power cable to the starter motor was too close to the block and the plastic casing had melted away, so the bare wire was shorting-out so the starter wouldnt even turn over.

If I left it for while it would start no probs, or if I got a jump start.

If it turns over, then I'd imagine the starter is maybe not the problem? Always something to check though

I don't see it being any of the above TBH, more like a temperature sensor or plug gap being wrong.

If it does it randomly and when cold too I would've said starter motor but if it only does it when hot then it would suggest a problem related to temperature so something it obviously doesn't like when warm.

If it's turning over all right, then I wouldlook at anything that upsets the mixture, even a air leak, split hose etc can do it, they run very lean mixes these days, so worth a free check first.
