Default Temprature Problem

just went to the chinese for some thing to eat and was out for a matter of 10 minutes, the heaters were on full blast aswell

wen back into the car after getting my food and noticed the temp gauge was right up.

is this a thermostat fault ??

it is an 02 plate fiesta zetec-s if this helps.

if your heaters were blowing hot then i doubt its the thermostate because if the stat was stuck shut not allowing the water to get through then the heater matrix will not be getting any hot water and therefore would blow cold air. it may be as simple as the temp sender is fucked or the wire from the sender has shorted to earth. if the wire has shorted to earth the temp gauge will go straight to the red with just the ignition on and the engine not running.
but on the bad side it could be head gasket!!!
hope this helps,

cheers,
Phil

if the heaters were blowing cold; and the car overheated you might have cooked it

it could be the stat as said above; get a sniff test done on the headgasket; kets hope you havent cooked it

pavl said it happened to his fiesta aswell and said it could just be the heater control valve.

just take the stat out and see if it still over heats the heater will blow cold with no stat. if it over heats with the stat out then theres a problem else where. a sniff test is a good suggestion if the stat turns out to be ok.

you can check the stat by putting it in a kettle to see if it opens when the water boils.

cheers,
Phil
