Q plate question
as most of you will probibly know some insurance companys wont insure a Q plated car , for what ever the reason for the Q plate might have being put on the car for.
was just wondering if there was a loop hole with the system where by haveing a personal plate on the car would let the insurance company insure you on the car with out any probloms ?

arrgh ok then chears mate , is it posable to insure a Q plate car ? does it have to go through the same checking process as a kit car , ? to get signed off or what ever its techinal name is so it can go on the road ?
for mot purposes, theres loadsa stuff not testable on Q plates, a lot of the age related items become not testable, rear seat belts, side repeaters.
Have you tried specialist insurers like adrian flux for a Q reg?

so i.e. theres less to fail on with a mot on a Q plate ? i havent tryed for insurance on a Qplate yet , the reason i ask is becos iv being told of something that may be coming up for sale that sounds very "intresting" but unfortunatly its on a Q plate , so was just making some enquiries about wot can be done about them ,
as for the traders insurance , as far as im aware its very hard to get hold off , and wouldent really no how to go about getting it lol

Hi, long time lurker/first time poster here.
I joined up to reply to this question, as I think can shed some light on it.
Most companies will only insure Q's 3rd party only, without fire and theft cover, but some will give you the F+T cover you want. I insured my old Q plated Escort with Swindle (sorry, Swinton), and they were perfectly ok about it. You could also try taking out a traders policy assuming it doesn't omit Q platers.
Once a Q, always a Q.....in that the vehicle has to wear a Q plate for the rest of it's life. Most companies will ask why it's been Q'd too, so make sure you know. Also, remember that the emmissions test part of the MOT is not applicable to Q platers. The only check is a visible one, ie look to see if the car is "smoking". If not, it's a pass.
Hope this helps.
