Default Is my heated front windscreen working?

Hi there,

I have a fiesta MK4 '96 Ghia. It has a heated front windscreen. Now with it being the autumn months I am having to use my rear and front windscreen heaters.

However I don't think my front is working, I never see an effect from it unlike the back. So I've checked the haynes manual and checked the fuse, which happens to be fine.

Ok so, how do I actually check that the front heated screen isn't working, and if it isn't, what could the problem be?

And I assume the front and rear work on the same switch, because I only have one...

Cheers

Hi, it's Ghia19.

Erm I only have one switch and that operates the back... The front screen definatly has heater strips and being a Ghia.... Hmmm, why would there be no switch???

I'll try looking behind the blanking switches..

Well, i've just had a really good investigation and...

There is no front window switch, there is no wiring to the switch, all there is are the connector tags to the front heated screen!!

This is a Ghia model, which is supposed to have a heated front screen? Well the screen is heated, there's just absolutly no circuitry to the screen!!

How can i fix this?

You need an auto electrician/someone who knows what they are doing to wire it up to the std ford switch if you have 1. I'd have thought it'll be no more than ahours job for someone whos competant

similar thing to my old rs1800 festa - sold without ABS, when looked properly it obviosly did have the pumps under the bonnet and the piping, turned out ford had fitted the warning lamp in the glow plug on indicator in the dash -

A quick test to check if you heated screens are workin is to see if the rpm dips when you turn them on because of the extra load on the alternator
